Liam Finn is the son of Neil Finn Crowded House/ Split Enz. He has spent the past four years in Melbourne and London but is now in the process of relocating to New York and will then be touring the country with his band. He appeared on the David Letterman Show in February.
His time in England wasn't that flash; bandmates were mugged, a laptop containing crucial recordings was stolen, they were evicted from their shared flat in the middle of winter. Finn broke up with his long-term girlfriend, then decided to take a break from the band as well.
Now About That Terrible Beard: "Such a dense and unruly thicket of facial hair is not there to be fashionable; it is there to make a statement, and that statement is probably this: When I went away, I was a boy, but now I am a man. Or perhaps: With my face covered up like this, I look a lot less like my famous father, Neil. Or maybe it simply says that I'm really lazy and can't be bothered shaving," said the young Finn. "Or perhaps I grew it because it has some strange magnetic effect on women. Or maybe I just grew it because I could. A lot of people say to me `God! I could never grow a beard like that', and I think, `Well, if you can grow a beard like this, you should, because most people can't'. If I didn't do it, I'd feel like I was wasting some sort of rare and special talent."
Anyhow I rather liked this understated song (and it seemed to be appropriate for Easter Weekend).
