VideoTrinity Roots - Home, Land & SeaNov 27, '07 3:26 AM
for everyone
Trinity Roots was formed in 1998, when all three members of the band were studying at Massey University’s Conservatorium of Music.

Guitarist and lead vocalist Warryn Maxwell started out enrolled in the Jazz Foundation course, then he went on to complete his Bachelor of Music degree in 2001. He also managed to add a Maori component into his studies with a Certificate in Tohu Ara Poutama. Like Maxwell, fellow musicians Rio Hemopo (bass/vocals) and Riki Gooch (vocals/samples/percussion) also played in other bands in and around Wellington – including Jonathan Crayford’s band and Fat Freddy’s Drop – and their sound evolved from the capital’s unique jazz, funk and soul traditions.

The Trinity Root's debut EP was released in 2000, and their first album, True, recorded in a farmhouse near Dannevirke and mixed on a computer at home. Home, Land and Sea was to be their second and final album.

Trinty Roots have performed alongside Ben Harper, Lee Scratch Perry, The Mad Professor, King Kapisi, Che Fu & Salmonella Dub.

They disbanded in 2005 after their final performance at Soundsplash. This video clip is taken from that final concert...

"Whata ngarongaro he tangata, toitu he whenua... Man disappears, but the land remains..."
